Smashing Four is a free to play game and as such it doesn't require you to spend any money to fully enjoy. However, it is possible to buy game currency or special offers using real money via in-app purchases. Currency can be used to acquire products such as Coins, Hero cards or Orbs that may help you progress faster.
Hi guysI thought it would be a cool idea if we could start a thread for beginners tips. At the moment this sub reddit is severly lacking in any sort of strategy posts. There are lots of experienced players here with some great knowledge. I am just going to cover what i feel are the 4 most important tips for beginners.1.) Cards do not remain at the same strength through every level.Cards at lower arenas start with low stats but have bigger increases with each level.
Cards at higher arenas start with higher stats but grow slower. Because of this dont give up on early arena heroes to replace them with higher arena heroes. For example, the barbarian does not seem great at first but once you get it to about level 9, it becomes an amazing damage dealer.2.) Save your gems to purchase gold. This is mainly a tip for free to play players. From my own experience, gold becomes a major problem if you need to make any deck replacements. Because of the massive luck involved with epic and ultimate orbs, i do not feel that they are worth using your gems on. You are better buying gold and purchasing the exact epics you need. You will also really start to feel the gold shortage when you start upgrading cards to level 11 and level 12.
So get as much bonus gold from your gems as you can.3.) If you dont plan on constantly pumping money in the game, stay away from all epic heroes.I will be the first to admit that some of the best cards in the game are the epic heroes, but no card is worth using if its underlevelled (except for the broken sorceress). You should only consider using an epic hero once you have enough cards to atleast get it to level 5. A level 5 epic can get you to the bronze award, but trying to get to silver reward and beyond will be a struggle.
Even at level 6, you will commonly fight level 9 rares and level 12 commons. This would leave even your level 6 epic severely underlevelled in comparison to the rares and commons you will be going up against. The team is planning on making changes to make epics more obtainable but we dont know how long it could be before that happens. Even if the team decides to add a chance of getting an epics from any chest, we dont know how often epics could actually be dropping, so for now, common and rares are the way to go.4.) Hero combo's determine deck strength. When starting out and looking for a deck to build to build, try to use heroes who combo well with each other. For example, using a zombie with naga, banshee with satyr, paladin with assassin etc.
The strongest decks in the game are the decks which have heroes who compliment each other. Its then obvious that you dont want to use heroes who have counter acting abilities. Like using two positive enchanters or 2 negative enchanters in the same deck or using a priest with a berseker. These decks can still work but you wont be getting the most of their abilities. Similarly you dont necessarily want to use a hero if you dont have a way of using its ability. Like using a satyr without a positive enchanter or a naga without a negative enchanter. Playing a solo satyr or naga can be used to counter a specific meta, but no meta lasts forever.
If you can afford to make constant changes then its fine, but if you cant, its not a good idea.If you have any other beginners tips, please share them! Lets try and bring some strategy and tips to this subreddit. Awesome summary.
I was thinking of writing the same stuff. Here is a tip: orbs obtained in higher arena give you more cards. So make sure you get your orbs when you are playing in the higher arena. This also applies to chests and soul gem. Open them as much as possible in the higher arena. For example: at some point you get your first ultimate orb.
Make sure you get it in the highest arena possible for you. You get a lot more cards for just winning this orb in a higher arena. For a free to play player, i have confirmed that you can be in arena 6 with your first ultimate orb. (200th orb cycle)Additional comment on using an epic: you can use epics to get yourself in the higher arena.
(goal is getting more cards per orb)And the replace them as soon as your rare or common are higher levels. Note that lv 5 epic has approximately the same strength as lv 7 rare and lv 9 common. These are the exact same levels if you play clan battles. I agree with everything you said.
There was a time when i knew my ultumate orb was 3 or 4 orbs away. I was just about sitting in a new arena and the season was about to reset, so i gemmed a few chests to make sure i got my ultimate orb in the new arena before season reset happened and my trophies would take a knock. In my original post i should have let beginners know that you get your ultimate orb after opening 200 orbs and then every 240 orbs after that.
I also did exactly what you said about the epics. I played with enchantress to climb and then eventually replaced her with banshee.
Enchantress really helped me in the beginning but i couldv saved so much gold if i just used banshee sooner. I shouldv also mentioned that free to play players should not use any cards that are clearly overpowered because they will undoubtedbly be nerfed eventually, and depending on how harsh the nerf, could then force them into having to use more gold to replace that card. Interesting, you used enchantress also before banshee:)That was my plan as well. But with the ultimate orb, i got more enchantresses so i could level her to level 5.Now in the 2100-2200, she is still very usefull, but i know i need to replace her with banshee anytime soon to have any chance for the 2500 mark.
So at what level do you think that banshee will out- level a lv5 enchantress? Or what level does my banshee needs to be for competing at the 2500 trophies?Unfortunately, my banshee is not even lv7 yet. I actually got close to hitting 2500 a few times with the level 5 enchantress. I was using enchantress, satyr, berseker and barbarian.
After Geewa destroyed the berseker i eventually replaced him with the yeti. I actually only replaced my enchantress today. I had an ultimate orb and thought i could maybe get her level 6 but didnt get any enchantress, so i decided to use banshee instead of just relying on luck to upgradr 1 of my cards. Iv got banshee at level 8 and it feels way better than the enchantress. It has over 200 more health than the enchantress, does more damage and its heavier so it survives much longer than the enchantress. Iv played 4 games with the banshee so far and won them all. Im sitting just over 2400 trophies now.
Its worth the trade off for the more health. Enchantress is great but doesnt really help when so many heroes can kill the level 5 enchantress in 1 or 2 turns. Thx for sharing your experience with banshee.
And i think it works for your deck, because yeti and barbarian get a great boost from banshee with their abilities. I think the top players are also using this similar set up.I could think of 1 more disadvantage of banshee vs enchantress. With the enchantress you could immediatly change the enchantment and Hurt your opponent.
While banshee enchants you at the end of the turn. But i agree that a lv 8 banshee is better than lv 5 enchantress.Compare it to lv6 enchantress. I don't know. Thanks Mordeus:). I had the same problem when i first started but im hoping this will spur on everyone to post more posts like these. I will be trying to post some more strategy posts in the future.
I feel like beginner tips especially will help with player retention. I want to start daily card discussions too. If you are looking for me info in the mean time, check out smashguide.net. There is also a smashing four wiki but i find smashguide easier to use.
You can get hero stats at all levels on thise websites, it was a big help with deck building.

The simplicity of the game is its best feature as well as somewhat of a problem because you can be successful with not knowing anything at least in the short term. But if you learn what each unit does a level of skill starts to reveal itself. The characters are unique and fun and if you get past the simplistic appearance and the straight forward game play and involve yourself in the gameplay beyond the main arena the game will open up and become more than it appears at first.
And while this is not at least to this point is a hugely followed game the developer is keen to go the extra steps to make the game work for all the players. It took me a while and more than one deletion to understand the charm in this game and the main reason I would download it is the contact the seemed above and beyond what other games seem to do at least from what I see sure if you spend tons of cash you’ll here from the developers but I spent very little and the attention was still there. Each time I deleted it I had a twinge of guilt that i was letting someone down so whenever I could not find something new this game was sitting in my head and finally I understand this game and enjoy it very much. IIITHUNDERIII, Wrong way!!!!!Addition.I understand the need for card adjustments, it is needed ina game so that it does not become stale by seeing the same cards over and over match after match. But in the case like the yeti where you took it from the bouncy boss it once was to a basically useless dps with lots of health it eliminated it from being a viable card to use at all. Why did you remove the ability to keep the damage until he end of his turn?
It’s still there for the barbarian, you even removed it from the description of his power!? I grind this game, I don’t spend money so it makes me very glad I don’t because if I spent money on a lineup I like but you change the toons around to make my cards no good anymore I at least only lost time not my hard earned money. How about if a card is too powerful maybe bring the other cards to that level rather than bringing he good cards down a peg? I was very close to spending money but things like this remind me why I don’t.
You nerfed the zombie, and buffed the wraith? Wraith should not be able to wipe an entire team with one shot, no other toon can do that. And then you gave him more health and damage what was your thinking behind that? That buff only helps the few people who are lucky with orbs or spend LOTS of gold.
Good job only helping out some people and screw the rest of us who have to face him. Was 4 stars now 3.
Developer Response,Hi, thanks for the ideas:)We are reviewing progress pace and rewards, changes will be made soon. We also perform regular balance updates, Wraith is being watched very closely. Ferasoh, Add more featuresIt is an incredible game. I would like to see some good featrues in the coming updates such as viewing other players’ owned cards.
Also, Balancing the opponent of the training. Sometimes, the opponent training is very higher level than me. The computer is smashing hardly with three smashes at least in a turn it kills the training because I need to practice the abilities of my heroes and their performance. At least, make the true players in the training receive NO DAMAGE to get more time for practicing. Also, the orbs or chests that I get it takes a long time to wait to be opened and I want to play more games but I am afraid of missing rare orbs “chests” while waiting the other orbs to be ready for opening and receiving my rewards.
Moreover, the rewards of a common orbs are very low, I know I should play more to get more rewards but when account and check the games that you played/won you will notice that is not worth to miss the chests to get gold. Finally, I like this game so much. It’s funny and addicted. It lets me want to play more. I hope that you guys make it more better than now and DON NOT lose the original game try just to make it more funnier and perfect.
Thank you for your INCREDIBLE GAME.
